What is a ribbon mixer used for?
What is a ribbon mixer used for?

Ribbon mixers are used for dry or wet blending of powders, granules, and pastes in industries like food, pharmaceutical, chemical, and cosmetics. They ensure homogeneous mixing of solid-solid or solid-liquid materials.

How does a ribbon mixer work?
How does a ribbon mixer work?

It consists of a U-shaped trough and inner & outer helical ribbons (agitators) rotating on a horizontal shaft. The ribbons move materials in opposite directions—outer ribbon moves material toward the center, inner ribbon moves it outward—creating intense cross-blending.

What types of ribbon mixers are available?
What types of ribbon mixers are available?
  • Standard Ribbon Mixer: Basic design for general mixing.

  • Sanitary (Food/Pharma Grade): Polished stainless steel, easy to clean.

  • Jacketed Ribbon Mixer: For heating/cooling during mixing.

  • Vacuum Ribbon Mixer: For mixing under vacuum to remove air/moisture.

  • Screw Conveyor Discharge/Plow Discharge: For easier unloading.

How do I choose the right size?
How do I choose the right size?

Choose based on working capacity (typically 30–70% of total volume) and material bulk density. Consider future needs, and ensure the motor power matches material characteristics (density, flowability, viscosity).

What is the typical mixing time?
What is the typical mixing time?

Usually 5–20 minutes, depending on material properties, batch size, and required homogeneity. Test runs are recommended.

Can I add liquids during mixing?
Can I add liquids during mixing?

Yes, via spray nozzles in the lid. For optimal dispersion, add liquids gradually while the mixer is running.

What foundations are required?
What foundations are required?

A level, vibration-damping concrete foundation is recommended. Foot-mounted or flange-mounted designs vary—follow manufacturer guidelines.

How do I clean the ribbon mixer?
How do I clean the ribbon mixer?
  • Dry Cleaning: Use brushes, air blowers, or vacuum.

  • Wet Cleaning: Use food-safe cleaners and water; sanitary models have CIP (Clean-in-Place) options.

  • Manual Cleaning: Ensure lockout/tagout before entering.

Are ribbon mixers compliant with FDA/USDA?
Are ribbon mixers compliant with FDA/USDA?

Sanitary models with 304 or 316 stainless steel, polished finishes, and proper seals can meet FDA/USDA standards for food/pharma.
